Phyllis has been in softball since her 20's when she played for her St. Mary's Hospital team. She continued playing for many years in high caliber fastpitch with some of Tucson's best teams. She was one really tough catcher. Her last game was 2 years ago when her 'Rancherettes' didn't have enough players at Arizona Olympics (07). She grabbed that famous glove went to first base..... I was so pleased to have been there - as was everyone who knew her. It was and is very memorable. Gruff as she was - I know her heart was very happy. She had been coaching her Rancherettes (Senior Women's Softball) -- through their 55+, 60+, 65+ and 70+. This year (August) she entered Arizona's only 75+ team into the National Tourney in San Jose, Ca.. Both her 70+ team and the 75+ team won gold in their divisions at San Jose. For the very first time in so many years - she was so ill she couldn't make the trip with 'her ladies'.
I believe her memorial services may be held this coming Wednesday- but don't yet know the specifics. I understand the family is considering a really nice memorial at Phyllis and Marion's 'ranch' property.
We know she is up there with all of those wonderful players that you have lost and also with the many that we have lost- Am sure she will be saving our respective positions and making her line-ups and hollering her famous " TWO HANDS!".
Regards.
